I see a fluid leak under my car, what is it?
There are two ways to identify a fluid leak. What is the color of the fluid and what is its consistency?
- A fluid that is pastel blue, florescent orange, or yellowish green is an indication that your engine is overheating or that a hole in a hose, water pump, or leaky radiator is causing antifreeze to leak.
- Fluid that appears dark brown or black in color and is oily or greasy is an indication of a bad seal or gasket causing engine oil to leak.
- A fluid that is red and oily means a power steering or transmission leak.
- If you notice a pool of clear water, do not be alarmed. Water is usually normal condensation from the air conditioner unit.
